Brown Eyes, Blue Eyes

 Brown Eyes, Blue Eyes

In this class we watched a short movie. It was about discrimination of a teacherhttp://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png who tried an experiment on students. First time she favored the blue eyed students over the brown eyed. Then blue eyed students started being meanhttp://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png to the brown eyed and disappointed and upset, but when she tried the other way around, she was surprised because the brown eyed started being mean to the blue eyed even though they have experienced the feeling of discrimination. Later after many years the students had a reunionhttp://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png with their teacher. They said that by the experiment they understood the real meaning of discrimination.

Culture Movie

Fahad, Abdalla, Khalid, Ahmed, Mohamed

They filmed their film in the Sheikh Zayed Mosque first; Abdalla started the movie by making an interview with two tourists.
He started with a woman from the UK and works here, he asked her her about the culture shock; she answered that she went to Egypt first and worked there for 3 years so the big culture shock was there in Egypt except she had some shock here but not that much as when she was in Egypt. Then Abdalla started talking with a man from South Africa and he is an artist
; actually I didn't hear what he said exactly because the sound was a little bit  noisy.
The second slide Fahad was in the desert with his falcon; he showed as how to train the falcon and he said that the falcon is used for hunting birds even rabbits and from the past our parents used the falcon for hunting and it was a hobby between them.
Then Abdalla showed as the Arabian coffee and the glass how we shake our hands and what we do if we want more or if we had enough.
In the last slide Abdalla and Khalid sat together and talked about the UAE culture  and he mentioned pearl-diving, hunting and fishing and how was the life was before and how it changed now.

And I noticed that Mohamed wasn't shown in the film, also Ahmed, except in the beginning of the movie.

Ahmed, Saif, Abdalla, Mohamed

They filmed their film in the heritage village in AbuDhabi, at the begging mohamed started talking about the boat and it was used for fishing and to travel in the past, then ha talked about (merehanah) its a traditional game made from two ropes tied on a tree and a small board in the middle and ahmed was playing in it. then Abdalla talked about a traditional house. In the third slide they went to the beach at the yacht and they talked about our fathers how they was fishing and talked about what was they using like (senarah-leekh).At the end of the video Ahmed songed a traditional song that every emarati person likes this song, and in my opinion the film was good and little bit funny and i see that this film is the best comparing withe other videos.

Culture: the shared values, history, customs etc of a people.

Diversity: differences e.g. race, gender, economic status, religion etc.

Cultural diversity: a multicultural society where it is understood that each individual is different re. race, gender, economic status, religion, physical abilities etc. When this occurs we have social harmony i.e. peaceful co-existence of people from different backgrounds. In such a society there will be cross-cultural communication, where people from differing backgrounds can communicate and avoid conflicts and can even adopt aspects of other cultures i.e. acculturation. In this type of society there will be a widely-shared belief in human rights, basic freedoms which belong to all people regardless of colour, language, religion etc.

Bias:
If you are biased it means you have an idea that someone or something is superior to another for no logical reason. It is similar to prejudice, e.g. Racial prejudice in apartheid South Africa.

Culture shock:
This is when you find aspects of another culture so different from your own.

Demographics:
The study of population and its component parts.

Discrimination:
There was racial discrimination in apartheid South Africa. N.B. blue eyes v brown eyes.

Ethnic group:
It's a group which shares similar race, religion, language, what ever.

Ethnocentricity:
It's looking at the world from your own ethnic point of view; it implies that your ethnicity is superior

Expatriate:
Someone from one country living and working in another;not a tourist, not a businessman on a short visit.
